Day 13 - Singing, Dictation & Story Time

Again I was at school for 7:30am and travelled with Miss Nirosha who stayed at Jenny and Karen's last night as every day this week she has been late. By staying close, the other teachers hoped she would be on time!
We had an assembly again this morning - something I have realised will now be a daily occurrence. The children recited the school's motto and sung again which was really lovely.
This morning was a tough one, with the children being asked to complete their PACE tests - this sets them challenges and ensures they have actually been taking in everything they were learning throughout the week. Thankfully all the children I had been helping passed! Gold stars and sweets all-around today!
Today I was left in charge of Bethel and Faith class in the school. However, part-way through the day, Esther kept bugging Miss Reenashree for me to join their class, which I happily accepted! Anything to spend extra time with my beautiful sister.
When I arrived in their class, all Esther wanted for me to do was to test the on their written English and kept shouting: "Dictation!", "Dictation!". I've never seen a nine-year old so excited at the prospect of a class test, especially dictation! Even now, at 22 I cannot imagine a
worse way to spend time. I then spent the remainder of the afternoon reading stories on the school bookshelf (yes, one shelf!), which I found to be rather uninspiring. Fingers crossed in the next shipment we have a lot of books to send! I'll be adding this on my list of things needed for the school in Jaffna.
This evening I attended a prayer meeting at the community centre which was good - Amy translated for me, which was very helpful, otherwise an hour of Tamil only may have confused me rather a lot. Tomorrow is a prayer day; for the local community, wider communities and nations and personal issues. Looks like this will fill my Saturday which is a welcomed busy day! I need to be at the community centre early tomorrow to help with setting up and welcoming people.
