Day 7 - Ice Cream Party

Unfortunately today our plans to hit the beach with the kids were ruined by the unforeseen weather.
We rose to blue skies, no clouds above us, and a shining sun - we packed our swimming bags and headed towards the supermarket to buy our water and snacks for the journey to the beach. We walked around Jaffna Fort with Karen, and then headed to her house to discuss the plans for today.
On arrival at Karen's, we were hit with the most unbelievable rainfall, where we had to run as fast as possible to ensure we were not soaked to the skin. For this type of year, heavy rainfall, for the length of time it carried on for was highly unusual. It seems there was more rain today than the ground knew what to do with it!
Due to the heavy rain, and being unable to step outside, we decided to try and occupy ourselves for some time. Emin chose Monopoly for us to play, which without a doubt was the bottom of my list of pickings - from my experience and enjoyment of games, this is the worst one EVER created, perhaps because I am unable to ever win!
As a last minute decision, we decided to take the kids to the Ice Cream Parlour, so they were still able to enjoy our company for the afternoon. The ice creams were on me, and for some, it was their first time ever experiencing the cool delight of a frozen flavour! There was jelly, sauce and chocolate donning the already too-sweet delights, but boy, was it worth it! Esther was supposed to join us, but she had gone off wandering, as usual! Apparently this is normal behaviour for her. Seems like she might be the next Bear Grylls.
For dinner, we rushed to KFC, and enjoyed a Sri Lankan version of the favourite fast food restaurant. Yum. Yum. Yum!
