This morning we went to the local school in Jaffna run by The Dust Project's charity partners The Paalam Project. This is the school my sponsor girl Esther attends - The Paalam School. We ran the assembly, similar to the one in Colombo (on a much smaller scale), organised some singing and had a load of fun!
The kids were so cute and thoroughly happy to see us - it was a great opportunity for Sarah H and Tor to meet the children The Dust Project supports through education.
After visiting the school, we finished white washing the house, supported by Ananth and Usha. They were really getting into the white washing, and before lunch Usha had almost completely ruined her clothes from her enthusiasm!
By lunchtime both Sarah C/H's backs were hurting and we paused for a lunch break. We were happily greeted with a HOT curry, and companionship of the local teens. I had to get someone to help me out with my back and next thing I knew I had three people offering to click it for me. It was very much welcomed and appreciated! After lunch, we headed back to the house but the wash had been finished by Ananth and Usha, and so we were free for the rest of the day. The colours for the house had been chosen, and we put the order in, to be delivered tomorrow, for our next working day!
The rest of today we visited Baskaran's house, whose family was the first to receive a fully completed home from The Dust Project. Baskaran is Janet's father, who my mum and dad sponsor through The Dust Project's child sponsorship scheme.
We then moved onto visiting The DP store, which has second hand clothing, shoes, books and toys for Jaffna locals to buy at a really cheap price. Items sell for less than 2p, and are loved and awaited. It's amazing how items, we in the UK or other parts of the world have 'outgrown', but in Sri Lanka are much anticipated.
My heart, at the moment is bursting for Jaffna, the people and the Nation.
