Day 3 - Superheros for God

It's Tuesday! We arrived at school for 7:30am, with our jet lag and interesting sleeping experience last night (to be disclosed...), it was a slight struggle.
Myself and Tor woke up at some unearthly hour, which before last night (or this morning) didn't realise actually existed. We were both cold from the air conditioning, but were definitely awoken by a strange noise... We headed downstairs to use the bathroom, and grab a glass of water, and encountered A COCKROACH. ew!!! We totally freaked out and had to support each other to overcome our fear. No-way José could her or myself dealt with the situation ourselves.
Back to today...
We headed to The Paalam International School in Wattala, Colombo, just a quick 10 second walk through a gate to conduct the school assembly. I had prepared a talk for the children about being Superheros for God. I used David and Goliath to illustrate. Unfortunately my nerves (almost) got the better of me, and Karen also helped me out to finish off the talk.
I also ran and oversaw the worship session with the children. It was so much fun to watch them all join in and bust a few moves to worship God. I used a CD with songs I use regularly at Kids Club at Vineyard St Albans, but it was just as good as normal - seeing the children get passionate about God was great, and so uplifting. It was great using Doug Horley, as it really bought back memories form when I was at primary school singing these songs. There were loads of actions for the kids to learn and join in with, which the younger ones really enjoyed. The older ones required a little bit of encouragement! I have to admit, I was rather exhausted after it!!

We had a tour of the school, and although I was shown around last year, it was a great way for me to get reacquainted with a great place I genuinely miss. It was interesting again to see the classrooms and think about what I might be doing when I come back in a couple of weeks to observe in the classrooms. I also took a few pictures of the children but it was quite difficult in the lighting. I just didn't want to interrupt the lessons too much. There was one little girl in particular who I thought was absolutely beautiful - she had a skin lightening on her upper lip.
We were then driven up to Jaffna around 10am, as she needed to be here for a last minute meeting regarding the girls' home. We stopped at the supermarket before we headed off to stock up with water and a few snacks for the long journey! The journey overall took around 10 hours, not too bad compared to last year. Google maps somehow reckons you can do it in 6.5 hours, which I definitely do not believe!
We finally checked into the Valampuri and I decided I needed a quick dinner - chips and ketchup did the trick perfectly. The girls all had curry, but knowing I'll be eating it for the next three weeks I decided to steer clear of it tonight. Finally heading to bed after a rather exhausting day, looking forward to being on the building site (or I guess painting site) tomorrow.
