Day 10 - "Stuck in the Mud"

The early start this morning was not as bad as i was dreading! Despite being told how early assembly began, the trishaw did not come to collect me much before 7:45. Whilst it wasn't exactly a lay in, it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.
Assembly with the children was a great experience, and I really cannot wait for the next couple of weeks of doing this every day! I was then asked by Miss Reenashree to join her class, which I was more than happy to accommodate, where I was working again with the 5 oldest children focussing on helping them with Maths and English.
Break time began a new and exciting venture for the children, where I led them in games of Stuck in the Mud amongst other British playground fun. Their excitement was something I've never seen before at a game that was new and exciting for them. It was great to use Esther as a my wing-woman in teaching this game, and she was an absolute pro at it! Even I joined in, although I'm fairly certain in the climate of Jaffna I may be developing Asthma (is this even possible?!).
After school I headed straight to the Girls Home to spend another couple of hours with the few girls I am assisting in English. We continued our letter vocabulary and re-capped from yesterday. I think maybe later this week we'll focus on something a little different. I feel like I'm forgetting I don't need to explain what words mean, but how they translate. It's all rather confusing when you don't speak a single word of the language they ONLY speak!
This afternoon I've been hanging in the annex with a few of the children who are living with Sweetee and Karen in their home grounds. We've been playing around and working on a few arty things; it's a great way to spend time and also help the kids feel proud of something they have created and worked on. The joy in their faces was just out of this world - it really did warm my heart.
Dinner again was a wonderful curry and rice, i think this will be my staple diet - not that I'm complaining. My favourite food!
Grandpa sent me a wonderful email today, which told me all about his ripped jeans. He does make me chuckle, and asked my opinion on whether he was "cool enough" to pull off this new look.
Anyway, I'm off to bed, it's only 9pm, but boy, does this heat along with the lethal combination of early starts take it out of you!
